Motorola managed to be among the first companies to launch a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 smartphone. As usual, the company kept its strategy of launching its new flagship in China. The device came under the Motorola X40 moniker and is expected to hit global markets soon as Motorola Edge 40 Pro. Most of the brands that launched Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 phones in China, already have brought these devices to the global markets. After Xiaomi, Vivo, and OnePlus, it seems that it’s time for Motorola to get its flagship outside of China. Today, the device had its design revealed through leaked renders. Can you guess its design?

To anyone’s surprise, the Motorola Edge 40 Pro looks exactly like the Moto X40. That basically confirms that both devices are the same. After all, we already know it will likely bring the same set of specifications. It crossed the paths of Geekbench benchmark and Google Play Console listing. With the newly leaked renders, there is no way to deny that the Moto X40 is finally set to escape the Chinese stronghold.

The new set of leaked renders comes straight from leakster Evan Blass. He even shared a set of short videos of the phone. These renders seem to come out from official materials. Interestingly, it seems that the phone will land in the US market as Moto Edge+ (2023). Like it or not, this follows the last year’s strategy, where the US got the Moto Edge+ (2022). One of the leaked videos also confirms the 165Hz refresh rate. While most of the brands bet on higher resolutions, Motorola is going an alternative route. The brand sticks with the Full HD+ resolution with 2,400 x 1,080 pixels which should be enough for most users, to push the refresh rate even further. 165Hz can be only seen in the gaming range, and in the Motorola Edge 40 Pro.  The phone also has curved edges.

Under the hood, the phone packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU. It has up to 12 GB of RAM and the battery should be at 4,600 mAh battery with 125W fast charging. The phone also brings 15W wireless charging. The charging means a significant increase over the last year’s Motorola Edge 30 Pro. The first Moto phone to bring that charging was the Edge 40 Ultra. Now it’s reaching the regular Pro. We are curious to see if this charging speed with reach the US.

POWERFUL CAMERA COMBO AND IP68 RATING

In terms of optics, the Moto Edge 40 Pro will likely stick with a 50 MP main camera. It’s a 1/1.55″ sensor with Optical Image Stabilization. There is also a 50 MP ultrawide shooter with a 117-degree field of view, and a 12 MP zoom camera with 2x optical zoom. When it comes to the selfie, the phone also has one of the shooters with the highest resolution among flagships – a 60 MP camera. The design is a regular punch-hole as Motorola did not bring an under-screen edition this time around. The leaked images also confirm stereo speakers with Dolby Audio, and the phone is water resistant. To those unaware, the Moto X40 bears an IP68 rating.

IT’S ABOUT TIME FOR MOTOROLA TO INTRODUCE ITS NEW GLOBAL FLAGSHIP

Right now, Motorola is yet to begin the official teaser campaign for the device. As you may know, there is no clue about the launch date of this phone in the global markets. Anyway, we expect this launch to happen pretty soon. Since the leaks are starting to pop out, we expect to hear more about this in the coming weeks. In my opinion, Motorola is already losing time. With the release of devices like the Xiaomi 13 series phones, the Galaxy S23 series, OnePlus 11, and the Honor Magic5 Pro, Motorola needs to launch its flagship as soon as possible. Otherwise, the brand will lose momentum. Things should still be comfortable in the US, as most of the Chinese brands are out of Uncle Sam.
